Nonprofits and Tax-Exempt Organizations: Save the Date for the May 16, 2022, 990 Series Return Deadline
May 16, 2022, is a major IRS deadline for nonprofits and tax-exempt organizations. For nonprofits operating on a calendar year or who filed extension Form 8868 for the November 15 deadline, 990 series return forms are due May 16, 2022, for the 2021 tax year.
Based on the gross receipts, size, and function an organization can choose to file either Form 990, 990-EZ, 990-N, 990-PF, 990-T, 1120-POL, and extension Form 8868.
Are you Ready?
The best way to keep your organization’s filing process simple and quick is to prepare ahead of time.
When you file a form 990 series return you will need to provide details about your organization’s revenue, expenses, and changes in net assets or fund balances.
Additionally, you may need to provide a description of your organization’s programs and service accomplishments. You should be prepared to list officers, directors, trustees, and any key or highly compensated employees.
We have a Blog for that:
Nonprofits and tax-exempt organizations can be penalized by the IRS for missing their 990 series return deadline or for filing late. Knowing which form to file and what information to include can be confusing, but don’t let that keep your organization from making the May 16 deadline.
