Everything can be done on a phone or a tablet these days and that also includes e-filing your Form 990-N. If you don’t file this simple little form, then you will lose your tax-exempt status.
Form 990-N is a much shorter version of the complete Form 990. Small exempt organizations and charities that have gross receipts of $50,000 or less in a year will file Form 990N. An organization that fails to e-file Form 990-N for three consecutive years will lose their exempt organization status.
Deadlines
When you need to file your Form 990-N will depend on your accounting period. The IRS explains it as – The deadline is on the 15th day of the 5th month after the last day of your tax year.
What you need to file Form 990-N
There are a few informational tid bits you will need to successfully e-file your 990-N.
1. EIN or TIN number
2. Legal name & address
3. Different names the organization uses (if any)
4. Website address (if you have one)
5. Name and address of principal officer
6. Confirmation of gross receipts of $50,000 or less
7. A statement that the organizaiton is going out of business (if applicable)
